Mathematics
You cannot escape from mathematics. Every card game, poker included, involves probabilities and statistics. You will need the skill to know the odds you have to win so you can decide if you can take the risk. It has to be your second nature to know the cards and the probabilities so you will know when to bet, when to raise, when to fold, and when to push all in. You should at least know the basics or playing will just be like giving away your money.
Discipline
Discipline distinguishes the professional player from those who just play with luck. A disciplined player plays to win while a fish hopes for wins to come. With discipline comes some planning. A disciplined poker player formulates his strategy as he reads the other players around the table. You also call it discipline when you know when to back down or when to be aggressive. Discipline is being on guard every time you play.

Beginners always play when they harbor a gut feeling or a sixth sense about a certain hand. That is wrong. You should play ahead in the game by mathematical calculation, compute the odds of winning and referee the opponents and their playing styles before you thrust yourself on the poker table.

Not the most interesting video, but I like David Williams in these instructionals. Not only is he self-critical, he also talks SENSE and really explains why certain plays make sense and why he plays certain hands in a certain way. A person who is not actively participating in the actual game is used to deal the card hands when button games of poker are in play. The term “button” refers to a circular disk that is used as a marker to denote who it is in the game that is serving in the capacity of the dealer. The person who is acting as the dealer in the game gets the cards on the primary round of the game only after every one else in the game has already received the cards. Also, the person who acts as the dealer reserves the power to make the final move of the round after the primary round has come into play. During the course of the game, the button is rotated around the table so that all the 
players get a chance to act as the dealer. The button is sent around the table in a clockwise motion with the closing of each deal hand. This way, each of the players in the game receive a chance to act as the dealer at least once during the game, and by doing so they are able to enjoy the benefit of being able to take the last call on the round before the round closes.
Blinds are moves that are made with the betting process in order to begin the actual play in the rounds. Placement of the blinds is done prior to the players actually getting a chance to see the cards they have been dealt. In most games the blinds themselves are included into the game as a component of the bet placed by the player. However, there are some games in which the framework of the game is such that it calls for the use of blinds to be made invalid. In such games a specific category of the blind or even all of the blinds are declared to be “dead” and thus cannot be used to play in the game.
